The Meghalaya Election department has entered the Limca Book of Records for the formation of a human logo by newly-enrolled young voters of Meghalaya on the 1st ofJuly this year. IIT-Kharagpur has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Samsung India for the setting up of a digital academy on the institute’s campus. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering in the institute would host the Samsung Innovation Lab and train students on the Internet of Things (IoT) through Tizen-based operating systems, commonly used by the company for its mobile phones and home appliances.

The Nobel economics prize has been awarded to Richard Thaler of the University of Chicago for his contributions to behavioural economics. Swedish Academy of Sciences Secretary Goeran Hansson said today that the 9-million-kronor (1.1 million US Dollars) prize was awarded to the academic for his understanding the psychology of economics. 72 years old Thaler, is a pioneer in behavioural economics, a research field in which insights from psychological research are applied to economic decision making, a background paper from the academy said.

A student from Belarus has been crowned Miss Wheelchair World at the inaugural beauty pageant which took place in Warsaw, Poland on Saturday. World Post Day is celebrated each year on 9 October, the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 in the Swiss Capital, Bern. It was declared World Post Day by the UPU Congress held in Tokyo, Japan in 1969. Since then, countries across the world participate annually in the celebrations. The Indian Air Force is celebrating its 85th anniversary today. The main function was held at the Hindon air base near Delhi with parade and air display. Speaking at the ceremony, Air Chief Marshal B S Dhanoa said, the Air Force is prepared to fight at short notice, if the need arises. He said security of all Air Force stations have been enhanced to combat any threat, including sub-conventional threats, after the terrorist attack on the IAF base station in Pathankot last year. The Air Chief said the Force is committed to Make in India and indigenisation efforts in defence sector. He also paid tribute to the Marshal of the force Arjan Singh who passed away recently.

India and Ethiopia today signed agreements on trade, communication and media to boost bilateral ties. The agreements were signed after wide ranging talks between President Ram Nath Kovind and his Ethiopian counterpart Mulatu Teshome at Addis Ababa in Ethiopia. The two leaders discussed economic relations between the two countries and also support to Ethiopia in the power healthcare, and education sectors. In a series of tweets, Mr Kovind said, India has created jobs and contributed to the prosperity of Ethiopia. He referred to India as among the top three sources of foreign direct investment for Ethiopia. The President also thanked Ethiopia for its participation in the International Solar Alliance (ISA), established in 2015. The aim of the ISA is to provide a dedicated platform for cooperation among solar resource-rich countries and promote the use of solar energy.

The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) won the Nobel Peace Prize on Wednesday. The Nobel Peace Prize, worth nine million Swedish crowns ($1.10 million), will be presented in Oslo on Dec. 10.

President Ramnath Kovind today inaugurated the Shirdi airport in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. President also flagged off the inaugural flight of Alliance Air from Shirdi to Mumbai.The flight will take around 45 minutes. Besides Alliance Air, two other Airlines will be operating flights between Mumbai and Shirdi. The airport will initially have four flights to Mumbai and one each from Delhi and Hyderabad. Mr Kovind will also participate in the inauguration of Centenary celebrations of Samadhi of Shri Saibaba at Shirdi. President will later proceed to Mumbai where he will attend a function to declare Urban Maharashtra as open defecation free.

China today marked the 68th anniversary of the founding of People's Republic of China. More than 115,000 people from across China gathered at the Tiananmen Square at the heart of Beijing to watch the raising of the National Flag. At the backdrop was a 17-meter-tall giant display in the shape of a floral basket, which symbolizes a thriving and prosperous country. The National Day is celebrated with a week-long holiday.
